Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
– 2 Corinthians 5:16-21
We have a different approach to counseling – we believe that the Bible teaches those in the ministry of reconciliation to know that the person they are ministering to is a NEW CREATION in Christ – the very righteousness of God. It isn’t a counselor’s job to point out all that you are doing wrong, but to reconcile you to God like the Word teaches us: restoring you to the dignity, authority, power and perspective of sons of the Most High. A man doesn’t need to know what he is doing wrong so much as he must know how to do right. We don’t stop sinning by focusing on sin but by learning to walk in the Spirit. This is our highest ideal; and gives us the ability to impart true wisdom into your circumstances, not with condemnation, but with power that comes from the heart of God.
Most secular and even Christian counseling is focused on how to “fix yourself” – pointing out what is broken… as if by more condemnation you could actually change. All change comes, not by will power, nor by the might of man, but by the power of the One Mighty Man, the Living Christ.
Jon Snyder is the primary counselor at Mighty Man Ministries. Sessions are by appointment and we often prefer to have applicants fill out an intake form that gives us some of your history with the issue before beginning. For sexual addiction and purity counseling, typically we follow a curriculum through the Mighty Man Manual and workbook as that lays a path to freedom and allows readers to continue to meditate on the lessons individually and with God in prayer throughout the week.
Though well educated in psychology, It is important to note that Jon is not a licensed counselor. If you are looking for a licensed counselor, we work with several around the country. As a recovered addict, Jon, however, knows what you are going through when struggling with sin and sexual addiction; his struggles and victories lend invaluable wisdom and insights to any man looking to find real freedom over lust and searching to find a real and satisfying love life with their spouse. Our method is to draw from those life experiences but also and importantly to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying as you share your story. It is our hope that people who come to us for counseling find that they have truly heard from God, not just from men.
God's way isn't to "work on" areas of sin or brokenness but to teach us how to walk in righteousness. There is a big difference. The one is the focus on and "resurrect" what God has called dead. The latter is to learn how to walk in the spirit - this is our goal. Thus we take men through a progreesion that puts them in right relationship with God through better understanding of His grace and love. We see men set free from shame and learn to love themselves for who they are in Christ. THIS provides the essential foundation needed to change actions and attitudes that have been harming self and others. From here, we can begin to set vision for the future and learn to walk in the fullnss of our life's calling and purpose.
